The Namibian fishing industry’s whitefish season closed at midnight on Tuesday, 30 September 2014  and the new season will commence on 1 November.

This fishery remains closed for the duration of October, as this is the time of the year hake spawns, ensuring the future sustainability of the hake biomass.

All whitefish vessels were required to dock by midnight on Tuesday. The hake processing plants will continue to work the current haul of whitefish landed, where-after most sea-based and land-based workers will be sent on annual leave.
