PROPOSAL FOR LIQUID BULK TERMINAL IN DURBAN
South Africa - Transnet has issued a request for proposals to design, finance, build and operate a liquid-bulk terminal to handle petroleum products at the port of Durban. The 25-year concession period will only be awarded to a successful bidder that is 51% black-owned. Transnet has anticipated a shortage of refining capacity in the future, based on current demand for liquid fuels and the lack of investment in refining or alternative liquid-fuel manufacturing capacity. The deadline for bids to be submitted is 27 January 2017.
A fuel storage facility is currently being built in Cape Town by Burgan Cape Terminals with an expected operational date early in 2017.
