FISHING STALWART DIES TRAGICALLY
The South African deep sea trawl industry and all who knew fishing stalwart, Barrie Rose, were shocked to hear that he had tragically passed away on 30 December 2016. Rose, who was fatally injured after falling from rocks while fishing at Cape Point, invested 41 years of his time in fisheries research and the commercial fishing industry, and throughout his career was an advocate of managing and maintaining a sustainable environment. He retired from the industry in 2008 to pursue his passion for nature, the ocean and birds, and contributed his extensive knowledge of seabirds to various books about birds. Rose leaves his wife and two daughters.
